Which is the best park in Amsterdam for kids - somewhere where you can avoid dogs and inline skaters?

Our favourite is the Westerpark at the far end of the Nassaukade - take tram 10. It's got an old part dating from 1886 with big mature trees - English landscape-style. It also has old-fashioned swings, the odd rabbit and if you hear noisy birds, it is the ring-tailed parakeets. Dogs are banned apart from in a few areas. We like the headless lady floating round the lake.

The new section beyond the borough council offices has a good paddling pool for in the summer and if you head away from the city and then towards the railway you will find a city farm with the usual selection of animals. Good choice of places to eat housed in the old gas work buildings as well. Café Restaurant Amsterdam just over the main road is the place to eat with kids on Sunday.
