Armed robbery at Amsterdam's Hilton hotel [January 4, 2013]

Two men in balaclavas have made of with a quantity of cash from Amsterdam's prestigious Hilton hotel after threatening staff with a gun.

According to the Parool website, the two burst into the hotel around 12.30 hours and demanded money. They got away in a black Volkswagen Golf which was last seen on the nearby Lairessestraat.

Amsterdam's Hilton - seen here from the water rather than its somewhat grim front entrance - was the setting for John Lennon and Yoko Ono's bed peace protest in 1969.

It was also the location for Dutch rocker Herman Brood's suicide. He jumped off the roof.
